What is the “Mystery of God” in Revelation 10:7?
By David J. Stewart
“But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets..” —Revelation 10:7
Concerning the “mystery of God” in Revelation 10:7, the key to understanding this phrase is in verse 6... “Time shall be no longer.”
We read in Acts 1:6-7...
“When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.”
Acts 1:7 teaches that it is not for men to know God's times nor seasons for His purposes, but they will finish on schedule.
Daniel 12:7-9, “...all these things shall be finished. And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.”
Daniel the prophet didn't understand the prophecies given to him, as other prophets didn't either. It was a mystery to them all. So, in my humble opinion, the mystery of God in Revelation 10:7 refers to everything on God's prophetic schedule of events. It's not a mystery to God, but to men, as we clearly see here in Daniel 12:7-9. Before time can be no longer, the voice of the 7th angel must sound and all prophecies must be fulfilled.
To me, Revelation 10:7 is much like when Jesus on the cross said, “It is finished.” According to John 19:28-30, redemption wasn't finished; but rather, all the prophecies concerning Christ had been fulfilled up to that point; and then Jesus said, "I thirst" to complete the last prophecy. Redemption was completed when Christ's blood was applied to the mercy seat in the heavenly holy place (Hebrews 9:12,22-24). But on the cross, all the prophecies concerning Christ has been fulfilled with Christ's statement, “I thirst.”
Likewise, all of God's prophecies as given to the prophets, although not able to be understood from their view in Old Testament times, must be finished before time can be no longer. I think this is the correct interpretation of the "mystery of God" in Revelation 10:7, but this is only my humble opinion.
